Pulmonary Support Groups and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs

Support groups and pulmonary rehab programs offer educational and social opportunities for adults with lung disease. Adults with emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis form the base of these groups. Family members and anyone interested in respiratory health are welcome to attend. Support groups provide on-going education and current updates to the attendees and usually have no fee involved. Pulmonary rehab programs have both education and monitored exercise components. The fee structure and meeting times vary with each individual program so it is important to discuss this with the program contact person.

The American Lung Association of Minnesota has three adult support groups. The "Huffers & Puffers" meet on the east side of the metro area, the "Respiratory Health Club" meets on the west side of the metro area and the "Better Breathers Club" meet in the Duluth area. These groups started over 30 years ago and continue to serve a need in our communities.
